Laser light shows Introduction |
|
 |
 |
TVA is an international company that has pioneered its
own genre of large scale entertainment. We specialise in presentations
and permanent attractions that are targeted at audiences measured
in thousands per show.
Our choice of media therefore is necessarily commensurate
with the scale of the venues in which these
performances occur. The mediums must be visible to large groups
of people at a distance and to this end we combine lasers,
70mm film, scenic slide projection, pyrotechnics and enormous
WaterScreens to produce shows that are unique and compelling.
Our work is often used in theme parks to provide the headline
nighttime show, to hold the day time audience longer, or to
attract different demographic groups later in the day. Our
attractions are often used by government-owned corporations
who wish to have permanent attractions to assist in tourism
and other visitation to recreational venues.
Examples can be found in South Korea (the
world’s largest laser, film and pyrotechnics permanent
attraction), in Singapore where the Rise of the Merlion
is the headline show on Sentosa Island or in Sydney
Harbour, the world’s only completely floating
Macro-Media Aqua Screen attraction.
Recently, in the USA, our expertise has been called
upon by the Six Flags Great Adventure (the largest regional
themepark in the USA) and by Knott’s Berry Farm,
in Orange County, Los Angeles where our skills are called
upon for their WaterScreen and fountain spectacular
as well as other large scale projection projects within
the park.
Attractions have also been provided in Indonesia, Malaysia,
China, Fiji, Switzerland, New Caledonia, India, Thailand,
Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates.

The scope of this document |
|
 |
 |
In the pages that follow, we describe how a WaterScreen
attraction is created and how the various mediums
that are used interact with each other. In essence this
document is a generic description of our approach to
outdoor entertainment which is based around the WaterScreen
medium.
From concept to commissioning we deal with each aspect and provide examples of our work to demonstrate the various features.
This document is not a proposal, but will provide the reader with an excellent overview of what is possible and how the media can be adapted to different environments. It does not attempt to give guidelines and cost, as each venue brings with it, its own opportunities and challenges that can often significantly affect the budget outcome.
TVA and its key partners provide consulting services
to those clients wishing to explore the feasibility
of a WaterScreen attraction at a particular venue.

WaterScreens are available in various configurations so
that a variety of environments can be accommodated.
A WaterScreen is a wall of highly aerated water
produced by a proprietary pump, manifold and nozzle
system.
There are both indoor and outdoor WaterScreen systems but
in this document, we will confine ourselves to
outdoor applications.
The WaterScreen is semi circular in shape and is produced
by a single nozzle placed at water level. For
this
reason, the height of the water screen is approximately
half of its width. The largest WaterScreen currently
available is 30m in height with a diameter of
approximately 70m.
The screen of water is designed for rear projection of lasers, film, video, or scenic slide projection. The equipment is therefore placed on the opposite side of the screen to the audience.
Putting it all together on a WaterScreen. Another
25m high screen has film, lasers and lighting
all combined to create one enormous colourful
image. The central character produced in 70mm
film, the rainbow produced by lasers, the colourful
halo by 16 intelligent lights.
Inset: the same Aqua Screen, shown in daylight, the intelligent lights were mounted on a specially constructed truss. |
