Jeffery Goddard

CEO / Founder / Executive Producer

Jeffery is currently spearheading a major ad campaign for the feature film "I LOVE YOU PHILLIP MORRIS" starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor.  He also was retained by Sony Pictures as a media consultant for the Roland Emmerich film, "2012" and was an exec producer for the recent movie "Nobel Son" starring Danny DeVito, Bryan Greenberg, Alan Rickman and Bill Pullman. Jeffery also was in charge of advertising and TV PR for the hit movie "Bottle Shock."

Jeffery is the creator of TVA's most popular blended media campaign package: MediaBlitz!® and is a pioneer in the effective utilization of emerging media technologies for marketing, advertising and PR. Jeffery has been the subject of numerous major media interviews, both on television (NBC, PBS, The Learning Channel, NHK-Japan) and in the press (Newsweek, Los Angeles Times, Ad Age, Adweek, Marketing News, Direct, Film & Video , Response TV, Electronic Media, etc).

Son of the well-known documentary/adventure filmmaker/explorer, John Goddard, Jeffery grew up surrounded by film production. He was a news anchor and TV reporter for KBYU while attending Brigham Young University and majoring in Communications / Broadcasting. He also received a BA in Japanese and Intercultural Communications from the University of Hawaii. Jeffery has lived and traveled throughout Asia since 1979 and is totally fluent in reading, writing, and speaking Japanese, as well as some Chinese.

Soon after joining OGILVY & MATHER, Jeffery became their youngest-ever manager as well as chief liaison with Ogilvy's partner, TOKYU AGENCY INTERNATIONAL. He was instrumental in developing worldwide ad campaigns for Sony, Singapore Airlines, Sunkist, Exxon, Yoplait, Lee Jeans and Canada Dry winning numerous awards. While in Japan, Jeffery made over 300 TV and radio show appearances including a primetime quiz show similar to "Jeopardy" for six months running, holding the longest winning streak in the show's history. He was featured in Newsweek as one of "Japan's Gaijin Superstars."

Since founding TVA in 1987, Jeffery has created highly successful campaigns for such clients as Baxter Medical, Cable & Wireless, Canon, Cessna, Epson, FEMA, Kellogg’s, Hill & Knowlton, Lexus, Marriott, Nickelodeon, Occidental Petroleum, Pepsi, Princess Cruises, Qualcomm, Salvation Army, Sony, Space Adventures, Technicolor, Teradata, Universal Studios, Warner Br os., Westinghouse, World Vision, and Yonex.

Jeffery's best productions to date are his six vivacious children and his marriage with Laura. He is also a member of the following organizations:

 

Laura Tu

 Executive Vice President / CFO

Laura has a diversified background in business, finance and information technology. In addition to overseeing TVA’s financial operations, she also assists with international accounts--- utilizing her trilingual/cultural background and skills. Laura served as a Vice President at Countrywide Financial in 2007. Prior to joining Countrywide, Laura worked for eight years in the IT arena with both Yahoo and Sprint, with main focus on IT Performance Management and SLA Reporting. She made major contributions to the establishment of the enterprise Scorecard to measure the health of the entire Sprint IT Infrastructure and played a critical role in implementing a major outsourcing initiative with IBM and EDS. Outside her career at the corporate world, Laura also established a successful import/export company handling luxury automobile parts and home products.

Laura holds a MBA degree from the University of Missouri and a bachelor’s degree in English from China. She also has done studies in Mass Communications and Intercultural Communications. Laura loves to dance and travel. She has explored 33 states since she came to the U.S. in 1997. She is happily married to her soulmate, life companion and career partner, Jeffery Goddard. Their best production to date is Abigail, born in Sept. 2008.

 

Mark Mannschreck

Senior Director / Editor / DP

For over a decade, Mark has directed, shot and/or edited the majority of TVA's infomercials, documercials, commercials, trailers, spotlights, newsmagazines, NewsBreaks™, VNRs, inflight videos, VideoWalls, DVDs, as well as feature films, television, music videos, and corporate videos.

A short list of commercial clients include Coca Cola, Fender, LegoLand, Leg Avenue, Devry, CitiCorp, Four Seasons, Westfield, Jamaica Tourism Board, Children's Miracle Network, Red Cross, WorldVision, Universal Studios, and LA Times - as well as music videos for bands such as John Legend, Keyshia Cole, Beyonce, The Backstreet Boys,  Timbaland, Buck O' Nine, The Foo Fighters, and Ringo Starr….Mark brings a deep understanding of emerging technologies and new media to the table. His varied experience brings a freshness to even the most boring of subjects. He began his career in Television and Film as a film Camera Assistant, Camera Operator, and finally as a DP/Director for film and video productions.

Mark graduated from the University of Arizona (BFA Film/Television) on a full Regent's Scholarship in the 90's. He was born in Nebraska and raised in Chicagoland. He also enjoys playing Drums in his LA based band "Plastic Slap" which has headlined such Hollywood Music Venues as the House of Blues and the Whisky A Go-Go. 

 

 

 

Michael Engel

Writer – Producer - Director

Michael joined the TVA team in 2007 and since then has written, produced and directed many of our documercials, news spotlights and DRTV spots. In January 2010 he traveled to Israel to produce a documercial with Kathy Ireland for the world renowned Sheba Medical Center.   He line produced two films based on books by Deepak Chopra for Fox Home Video; "How to Know God" and "The Seven Spiritual Laws" starring Olivia Newton John. He also line produced a feature length documentary, "When Comedy Went to School" featuring Jerry Lewis, Sid Caeser, Larry King, Jackie Mason and Mort Sahl to name a few. Before TVA, Michael did infomercial production and DR spots for Three and Two Films, Fitness Quest, Family Products, Guthy-Renker, Product Partners, and others working on a variety of products from health and fitness to financial wealth building.

From May 1994 through August 2002, Michael ran the production and post-production departments at Steven Spielberg’s non-profit organization, Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation. As Director of Production he oversaw the gathering of more than 52,000 interviews with Holocaust Survivors and Witnesses in 32 languages and 57 countries. He set up the systems and managed an international staff of more than 100 employees. As negotiator of all production contracts, he managed relationships with personnel and companies in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, South and North America. Among his responsibilities was the supervision of the in-house post-production staff, overseeing, at times, more than 300 interviews a week.

As Executive in Charge of Production of the Broken Silence Documentary Series, he worked with Academy Award winner Andrzej Wajda, Academy Award nominee Luis Puenzo, Academy Award nominee Pavel Chukhraj renowned Czech filmmaker Vojtech Jasny and Hungarian director Janos Szasz. The resulting films received primetime broadcast in the United States and screened theatrically abroad.

Michael was also the Foundation’s Producer-Mass Media developing ideas, scripts and budgets for documentaries and programs based on the Foundation’s archive for broadcast, theatrical and classroom use. He worked closely with outside producers who were using the Foundation’s interviews for their films. Among them were Deborah Oppenhiemer who received an Academy award for her documentary, Into the Arms of Strangers and the producers of the groundbreaking film on Nazi gay persecution, Paragraph 175.

A graduate from the University of Southern California with a BA in film production and an MA in Literature, Michael co-wrote the feature film, Nightforce, released by Vestron Pictures. He has produced, written and directed TV commercials, educational and corporate films as well as the award winning short films, The Lovesong of Leo Bloom (Chicago, Santa Fe, Cork film festivals) and It’s OK to Tell (Cine Golden Eagle, Special Jury Prize Houston International Film Festival).

He lives in Culver City, CA with his lovely wife and sweet-faced daughter. He surfs most Sundays.

 

JACK SCANLAN * Entertainment and New Technology Marketing

 

JACK SCANLAN brings to TVA over 25 years of entertainment marketing experience and corporate management including extensive experience at major Hollywood studios.

He was trained in motion picture marketing at Columbia Pictures Studios where he was on the staff of the National Publicity Department as a Studio Field Representative.  In this capacity, over the years, he lived and worked in the Columbia Pictures Branch Offices in Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, and San Francisco for the Pacific Northwest Territory with liaison duties with film critics, media editors, theater owners and staff, local businesses and corporate movie promotion partners.

Specializing in FEATURE FILM THEATRICAL DISTRIBUTION, National Publicity Agency coordination, local Publicity implementation and Media Relations, Corporate Movie Promotions, Product Placement and Film-property licensing, he has directed scores of films through domestic theatrical marketing campaigns, negotiated written contracts and created more than twenty corporate movie promotions.  

As National Publicity and Promotion Director at Menahem Golan’s CANNON FILMS., he organized the National Publicity and Promotion staff, wrote all the job descriptions, hired 24 local and regional motion picture advertising agencies with in-house publicists, across the country.  He was Marketing Vice President at Twenty-first Century Films, with project-executive positions at Orion Pictures, Filmways Pictures, Universal Pictures and MGM Studios where he undertook special projects in all facets of motion picture marketing.

 

 

 

Jud Franklin

Jud Franklin, a highly seasoned and successful writer and producer, brings an impeccable reputation and talent for capturing and conveying interesting stories. His prior work includes a variety of genres from news and entertainment programs like Access Hollywood, to hour-long documentaries for The History Channel and even programming created for the Fine Living network that profiled successful American companies like Viking and Harley Davidson.

Jud also brings extensive experience in all aspects of television production including supervising domestic and international shoots; managing post production teams and editors; overseeing clip clearances and deliverables; and cost reporting and show budgeting.

Prior to joining TVA, Jud served as the "big story" producer for ESPN Hollywood where he specialized in interviewing some of the sports world’s biggest names like: Tiger Woods, Anna Kournikova, Lance Armstrong and Oscar De La Hoya.

After moving to Los Angeles in 1994, Jud began his career in television as an associate promo producer at Entertainment Tonight and in less than a year, at the ripe old age of 25, was promoted to senior promo producer for Hard Copy - where he spent the next year writing and producing daily promotional television spots for the Paramount Studio based show.

He is a graduate of the University of Arizona where he holds a bachelor degree in Media Arts with an emphasis in business management.

 

David Mangone

Marketing & Media Strategist, Writer, Producer, Director, Internet Guru

David Mangone has an impressive list of credits and awards as a writer, producer, director, marketing strategist and media consultant. His thirty-year career includes successful stints at a Fortune 100 packaged goods giant, an independent media production firm, an Internet-based e-learning company, a financial consulting firm, and countless assignments for advertising and public relations agencies, entertainment companies, and television networks.

Jud also brings extensive experience in all aspects of television production including supervising domestic and international shoots; managing post production teams and editors; overseeing clip clearances and deliverables; and cost reporting and show budgeting.

Early in his career, David was Director of Marketing Communications for Carnation Company, where he created and managed a multimedia communications department with a multimillion dollar operating budget. As an internal consultant to all corporate operating divisions, he developed, produced and directed the company’s sales and marketing presentations, corporate business meetings, new product introductions, video news releases and sales training programs.

David left the corporate world to launch an independent media production company, which he later merged with a privately held digital post production firm. It was subsequently acquired by a division of Liberty Media for $35 million. David developed, produced and directed national commercials, network television programming, corporate marketing and public relations presentations for Baxter International, Continental Airlines, Liberty Media, Nestle, Xerox, Hewlett-Packard, Procter & Gamble, Bristol-Myers, American Home Products, Yamaha Electronics, Honda, Acura, Mazda, NBC, ABC, Chiat/Day, DDB/Needham, O&M, and BBD&O, among others. Most notable during this period, David executive produced the Reebok “Skysurfer” spot, which debuted on the 1991 Super Bowl telecast.

As the world became increasingly digital, David served as technical and creative consultant to Activision, The Walt Disney Company, MGM/UA, Castle Rock and Turner Entertainment to develop and launch various video games, CD-ROM titles and corporate initiatives to enter emerging Internet and digital entertainment markets. He secured exclusive rights and developed the Official Internet Website for the Oscars©, negotiating strategic marketing alliances with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, ABC Television, AOL, Kodak, Revlon, Microsoft, and all of the major film studios. David developed Internet marketing strategies and implementations for Revlon, Kodak, Aramark, AMPAS, the American Academy of Achievement and many other organizations, public and private. He also wrote the business plan, raised two rounds of private financing, and launched The Learning Network, an Internet-based e-learning company, where he served as its first President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board.

David earned his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Communications from the University of Southern California, and an MBA from Pepperdine University

A Media Relations professional and Gold ADDY Award-winning copywriter, Mark Hirsch has over twelve years of experience in achieving national media coverage and top tier placements for his clients.

Mark’s unique brand of media pitching was developed during his five years as a registered representative in the investment banking industry, selling IPO shares to high net worth clients. Moving on to a high profile Beverly Hills PR agency, Mark launched his career as a successful publicist, where he represented such clients as British Airways, Weyerhaeuser, See’s Candies and Libby’s. Larry Thomas

Director / Writer / Producer

Larry Thomas is a triple threat – a director/writer/producer with over twenty-five years of production experience.

His professional career includes seven years at channel nine in Los Angeles. (KHJ and later KCAL) Thomas directed a wide range of programming, including news and public affairs, live event coverage, telethons, sports, and music shows. He has received several local Emmy awards.

Thomas was also the writer/producer/director of the pop-culture classic ELVIRA, MISTRESS OF THE DARK, a campy, syndicated program that was seen throughout the country and that made the Elvira character a Halloween perennial.

Thomas has participated in various commercial campaigns for companies like Scott Paper, Lee Pharmaceuticals (those press-on nails), and Target Stores. He directed 65 episodes of “RICHARD SIMMONS SLIM COOKING”, a syndicated program that featured the exercise guru and that originally aired on CBS O&Os.

His knowledge of the infomercial arena began with the landmark WHERE THERE’S A WILL THERE’S AN A series, hosted by both John Ritter and Michael Landon. He has directed or written a vast array long-form commercial programming, including infomercials for Hamilton-Beach and Target, infomercials that starred Morgan Brittany, Robert Culp, Richard Karn, Cheryl Ladd, Pat O’Brien, Jim Palmer, Sarah Purcell, and a multitude of others. PERFECT SMILE, hosted by Vanna White, was another runaway success that Thomas directed, selling well in excess of a million units. As well as his work with major celebrity talent, Thomas has a unique knack for directing “real people” testimonials.

Over the past tthree years Thomas directed has CYBERSONIC 2 with Vanna White, a follow-up to the monster hit, CYBERSONIC with Robert Urich, POWER ZONE with Denise Austin, BOSLEY MEDICAL, and a four tape home video series for LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL.

Recent short form commercials and sales presentations include SPRING CLEAN with Cathy Rigby, LET’S DO IT AGAIN (an oldies collection), EZ START BATTERY booster (direct response), REGINA BELL CD release (retail ad), MURAD HAIR CARE (point-of-purchase), and MOLDEX INTERNATIONAL with Mike Ditka (sales presentation). Thomas is continually involved in production, focusing on both long-form and short-form commercials and other broadcast programming, as well as home-video, corporate, and how-to projects.

 

MichaeL Moffett

Michael is a cum laude graduate of the USC Journalism and International Relations schools. Experience on both sides of the camera for news programming on Fox News, ABC News affiliates, PBS, Deutsche Welle TV, and APTN anchor his nearly two decades in television. Following three years as the Iberia correspondent-producer for the award-winning newsmagazine “European Journal”, Michael took a decided turn toward documentary programming in 1997. Based in Madrid, Spain, Michael has since contributed to documentary programming on five continents for the likes of National Geographic Channel, Discovery Channel, History Channel, BBC, ITV, EuroNews, MTV networks, The Tennis Channel, and the IOC. Michael also manages the production services and camera crew network for TVA in Iberia and Latin America. This has involved him in a full range of factual entertainment programming recorded in both English and Spanish.

 

Randall McGuire

Senior Media Buyer / Planner

Upon graduating from UNLV with a B.A. in Communications, Randall began his employment as a sportscaster for local affiliates KTNV (ABC) & KLAS (CBS), before opting for a career in Sales & Marketing. After working for other agencies in Las Vegas, he began specializing in the field of Direct Response TV in 1993 and represents many of those same clients 16 years later. Randall’s media strategies helped ensure profitable campaigns for indie hit "Bottle Shock" as well as the follow-up campaign for "Nobel Son"---which is doing phenomenally well in DVD. Randall will soon be strategizing media plans for the movies “I Love You Phillip Morris,” (Jim Carrey) and “Hachi,” (Richard Gere).
